How Much Does ICL Surgery Cost in Vietnam?
The cost of ICL surgery in Vietnam depends on the type of lens, prescription, provider, diagnostic examinations and post-operative care.
Published Vietnamese sources indicate an approximate range of VND 80–130 million for both eyes. EVO ICL and Toric ICL may have different prices, with Toric lenses generally costing more when astigmatism also needs to be corrected.
| ICL Eye Surgery | Vietnam (VND) | Approx. USD | Approx. AUD |
| Phakic ICL – both eyes | VND 80–130 million | US$3,065–4,980 | A$4,280–6,950 |
| EVO ICL – both eyes | VND 85–90 million+ | US$3,260–3,450+ | A$4,545–4,815+ |
| EVO Toric ICL – both eyes | VND 100–110 million+ | US$3,830–4,215+ | A$5,350–5,880+ |
Approximate conversions use around VND26,100 per US$1 and VND18,700 per A$1. Exchange rates fluctuate, and published hospital prices may change according to lens type, treatment packages and promotions.
Always confirm what is included in the quoted price, such as pre-operative examinations, the ICL lens, surgery, medication and follow-up appointments.
ICL vs LASIK vs SMILE: What Is the Difference?
ICL, LASIK and SMILE are all used for refractive vision correction, but they work in different ways.
LASIK uses a laser to reshape the cornea after creating a thin corneal flap. SMILE uses a femtosecond laser to create and remove a small lenticule from within the cornea through a small incision, without creating a conventional flap. ICL works differently by placing a Collamer lens inside the eye without removing corneal tissue.
The right option depends on factors such as your prescription, corneal thickness and shape, overall eye health and individual treatment needs. There is no single procedure that is suitable for everyone.

The newest technology is not automatically the best choice. The appropriate procedure depends on your prescription, corneal condition, eye anatomy and overall eye health.
Who May Be Suitable for ICL Surgery?
ICL may be considered for adults with certain levels of myopia or astigmatism, particularly when laser vision correction may not be suitable.
It may be an option for patients with:
- Higher levels of myopia
- Certain levels of astigmatism
- Corneal characteristics that make LASIK less suitable
- A desire for a vision-correction option that does not reshape the cornea
However, not everyone is suitable for ICL. The ophthalmologist must assess factors including anterior chamber depth, corneal health, endothelial cell density, eye pressure and overall eye health before recommending the procedure.
For example, the EVO ICL manufacturer lists specific contraindications, including certain anatomical conditions, moderate to severe glaucoma, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and insufficient endothelial cell density.
How Long Should International Patients Stay in Vietnam for ICL Surgery?
ICL surgery itself is relatively quick, but international patients should allow enough time for the initial examination, surgery and early post-operative follow-up.
Cleveland Clinic states that most patients recover within a few days and that complete visual improvement may take around one week to 10 days. Follow-up commonly includes an appointment the next day and another around one week, although schedules vary by provider.

For international patients, staying in Vietnam for around 7–10 days can therefore be a practical planning estimate for an uncomplicated case. Your actual stay should be based on the treating ophthalmologist’s examination and follow-up schedule.
Note: 7–10 days is a practical travel-planning estimate, not a required recovery period. Your ophthalmologist should confirm when you are fit to fly.
Where Can International Patients Have ICL Surgery in Vietnam?
Vietnam has established eye-care providers offering Phakic ICL and EVO ICL procedures, particularly in major healthcare centres such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Hanoi – A Major Centre for ICL Eye Surgery
Hanoi has several ophthalmology providers offering Phakic ICL procedures. Published information from local eye-care sources shows prices varying according to the hospital and lens type
For international patients, Hanoi can also provide convenient access to accommodation, transportation and cultural attractions during the recovery period.
Ho Chi Minh City – A Major Healthcare and Travel Hub
Ho Chi Minh City has a large private healthcare sector and international airport connectivity, making it another practical option for international patients considering ICL surgery.
When choosing a provider, do not focus only on the advertised price. Consider the surgeon’s experience, diagnostic technology, lens type, pre-operative assessment and post-operative follow-up.
What Are the Benefits of ICL Surgery?
For suitable patients, ICL offers a vision-correction option without removing or reshaping corneal tissue. It can correct certain levels of myopia and astigmatism while preserving the natural corneal structure, and the implanted lens can potentially be removed or replaced when clinically necessary.

However, these benefits do not mean ICL is automatically safer or better than LASIK or SMILE. The most appropriate procedure depends on each patient’s eye condition and assessment by a qualified ophthalmologist.
What Are the Risks of ICL Surgery?
ICL is an intraocular surgical procedure and therefore carries potential risks.
Possible complications and side effects include increased eye pressure, cataract, corneal endothelial cell loss, inflammation, glare or halos, lens displacement and the need for additional surgery in some cases.

Patients should therefore undergo a comprehensive eye examination before surgery and discuss the potential benefits, limitations and risks with a qualified ophthalmologist.
The lowest price should not be the main factor when choosing an ICL provider.
For international patients, it is also important to consider what happens after the surgery. You may need transportation, communication support, medication assistance and follow-up appointments while recovering in a foreign country.
